Lustig Oktoberfest!

I've said before that the Koreans are the Irish, the Italians, or the Jews of Asia. Well every year when October rolls around, it might be fair to say Koreans are the Germans of Asia (but without the nasty genocidal history). That's because the way many Germans celebrate every October is how a lot of Koreans celebrate every other month of the year. To punctuate the point, Korean barkeeps have tended to deck out their "hof" (호프) beer halls in a quasi-Bavarian fashion.

Hawaiians could never be mistaken for the Germans of the Pacific. I don't know if there is an Oktoberfest anywhere on this island. Doesn't matter much to me, though, as I'm not a big drinker and I've got a lot on my plate this month.

In honor of Oktoberfest, I'll leave you with the following. Have a go at too much of the things on the right of this picture, and your bratwurst will be about as limp as that when you wish to have a go at what's on the left of the picture:

And she won't be smiling then.
