Anna Kendrick of Pitch Perfect meets F(x)

Okay, back in 2005 or 2006 I predicted Hyundai and Kia would become far more popular among American car buyers than they were then, but even I didn't expect K-pop to really start become a thing in the US.

  1. This may have a lot to do with "Pitch Perfect" just being released this week in South Korea (6 months after the rest of the world) and an effort to get Koreans into the theaters to watch a pretty good movie. Personally, I would have loved to see Rebel instead of Anna doing Kpop. Damn, I'd actually pay to see Rebel doing Kpop. I'm already going to watch her host the MTV Movie Awards, and I've never seen that less-than-Oscar-quality awards show before.

    1. You may be right about how this came about, but this is clearly marketed toward an American market.

And I wouldn't gripe too much about the movie being delayed six months. Back in the day, there was a typically long delay, but most major movies come out at about the same time as in the US, certainly much earlier than they often are in Japan.

But moreover, I think that's a huge blessing in disguise. Why should movies be released in Korea (or anywhere) on an American calendar that is oriented around US holidays and vacation periods? Look how many good movies fall through the marketing cracks because they're up against a cinematic behemoth.

"Pitch Perfect" was probably better off in Korea for having been marketed at a more select time.
