Obama warned not to ignore India

The Japan Times has carried an op-ed piece by John Lee Cheong Seong (a Korean-Australian?) chiding the Obama administration for not including India on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's itinerary.

The United States is "reaffirming security alliances with countries such as Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and Australia" while "deepening relations" with Malaysia. All this is being done in order to "manage" the rise of China. But, Lee says, improved ties with India should be an important part of that step, even if India takes its "independent" status seriously.

The United States under Obama, Lee fears, will leave India (and Japan) on the sidelines as it tries to deepen ties with Beijing.
