Parking lot pedestrianways

Honolulu is generally not a good place for pedestrians. There are crosswalks over major thoroughfares without traffic signals, where often elderly people get mowed down by multitasking motor-texters, major roads without sidewalks, potholes that make biking a real hazard, especially at night, drivers who utterly ignore stop signs, etc.

And while motor scooter and motorcycle drivers themselves stay off the sidewalks, they are replaced by bicyclists who seem to think they have the right-of-way.

But there are some good things. This recent development is worth emulating elsewhere: "sidewalks" between rows of cars so pedestrians don't have to compete with vehicles.

In addition to making things safer for shoppers on foot, it frees up the lot so soccer moms can continue to grove like bats out of hell.
