Good news, everyone!

New episodes of "Futurama" are returning to television tonight. Not on Fox, which turned into a hardcore porn channel so gradually I didn't even notice, but on Comedy Central, which, um, may already be a hardcore porn channel for all I know. (I only watch CC clips that make it to YouTube.)

But if the relatives I'm staying with have anything beyond basic cable, I'm there tonight at 10 pm.

So you see, kiddies, there is something exciting besides that other thing to wait for this June 24. And if this one has yellow discoloration, it is probably intentional.

And just in case you need some catching up to do, Captain Zapp Brannigan narrates this seven-minute video that brings you up to date in the 31st century.

  1. Watched episode 1 of the new series on Monday night.
Didn't elicit a single laugh, chortle, gafaw or even a snigger.
    Not all that impressed really.

  2. The movies gradually got worse and the first two episodes really weren't that impressive.

I enjoyed the first more than the second. The second ep made little sense and I really have to question why the creators would choose to have Zapp bed Leela in front of Fry. It was one of the more awkward moments in the history of the show.

  3. Wow. Tough crowd.

Okay, because of something family-related, I was unable to watch the season premiere, but I will say that I liked the movies enough that I hoped it meant a return of the show.

Anyway, shows sometimes need some time to get their groove back. If the eps were as bad as you guys say, there still could be hope.

  4. The first movie was actually good, but the quality suffered as the series continued. The final flick was almost unwatchable.

I'll probably rewatch the eps before episode three airs, but I don't think I missed anything on my first viewing.

  5. Also, in my opinion, the promo you linked made the new season seem somewhat unappealing.

I can't get it here, so I hope they do like some other Comedy Central shows (Daily Show, South Park) and post them online...

  6. Gotta go with the critics here. Downloaded the first show over the weekend and was hugely disappointed with it. Wooden, stiff, stilted delivery and direction doesn't make up for poor writing. Here's hoping it improves as it goes along, because I'm a fan, not a hater.

  7. Okay, I finally got a chance to watch a couple of brand-new eps. It was the eyePhone one and the robosexual one where Bender and Amy Wong were going to get married.

Okay, so I didn't see the first two episodes before that, but these two were pretty good. Not the best ever, but at least average, which for Futurama is pretty good.
