Cat got your tongue?

That cat being a cougar, and that headline being the obvious title for this story:
A 44-year-old woman was arrested by police from Gwangjin Station Sunday on suspicion of biting off a piece of a high school student's tongue.

According to the precinct in eastern Seoul, the woman, identified as a Cho, approached a 16-year-old Kim at 3 a.m. near a karaoke room she owns, and asked him to accompany her home.

When the two arrived at Cho's home, she kissed him and bit off a piece of his tongue. Cho was charged with causing serious physical injury.

Police said that about two-thirds of Kim's tongue was torn off. He was taken to a hospital and underwent an operation to reattach the removed part of his tongue.

But the procedure failed, likely leaving Kim with a permanent disability.

Cho was quoted as telling police, "I was drunk and don't remember anything."
There are so many life lessons to take from this that I don't know where to begin, so I won't.

I'll just say that I feel bad for the kid, who will have to go through life sounding terribly unsexy when he tells women his own mother's age, "Yeth, I want to have thexth with you. Your plathe or mine?"

UPDATE:
I must admit I may have treated this story too glibly. In fact, I misread how much of the young man's tongue was damaged, thinking it was "just a bit." My snarky response was a reflection of my memory, back in the 1990s, of a woman who was being sexually assaulted and bit off part of the tongue of one of her attackers. She was charged with excessive assault, which prompted an outcry by women's groups (the men were also charged).

So I was thinking, this is some punk kid who's out at 3 a.m. and shouldn't be, and he's off to get laid and — bam! — hot cougar is now crazy cat lady. Well, the "bam!" is more like this turning into a teenage horror flick. I hope the guy recovers, and I maybe I should rethink making fun of him like that.

  1. Gosh, 2/3 of his tongue?!! How does one manage to bite off 2/3 of another person's tongue?! This is just horrible to even think of. One wonder's what was going through her mind when she was doing this and also that poor guy's mind. You think you'd be able to pull away once somebody starts biting your tongue, but I guess she did it with too much ferocity.

  2. wth is wrong with that woman...

i'd like to see her jailed for 6 yrs at the least.. the man who raped a young girl several months back only got a few years of jail time, right?

i think korean law is way too lenient

  3. LastnameKim, your comment prompted me to add an update.

dokebi, the physical assault (not the statutory rape, if that is in fact what this is) is what has her deserving that much time. I wouldn't equate this woman's sex-related crime with that other assailant's.

  4. I think I saw a movie about that incident you referenced from the early 1990s or late 1980s. I think the movie was called "Because You're a Woman" or something like that (I don't remember what the title was in Korean). But yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I read about this recent incident.
